5. Qualytics by Nissatech
Continuous product quality improvement driven by smart tagging and data analytics
The vision of this proposal is to enable, through the use of dynamic QR codes, a closed-loop information chain in the home appliances domain, connecting and correlating the data from supplier/delivery, manufacturing/testing, utilization and maintenance to improving customer satisfaction/experience.
The main motivation for the proposal is coming from the problems with the quality of delivered devices: a) testing in the factory is incomplete but costly and b) customers are sometimes experiencing bad quality of delivered devices.
The advantage is that silos: manufacturing (factory), utilization (home) and maintenance (service) will be connected and analysed in order to find new knowledge.
Qualitics will work in the intersection between smart tagging, quality control and data analytics, enabling the creation of the new insights for the smart tagging process from different viewpoints.
6. FreshTag by tsenso GmbH
Shelf-life prediction for farm to fork food monitoring using smart product tags
An external model to enhance the functionality of the TagItSmart! ecosystem by predicting the product shelf-life will be implemented. It is based on the unit-individual tracking possibilities and the thermosensitivity of the SmartTags, the tsenso time resolved temperature data and intelligent food modelling. The workflow of the FreshTag module will be triggered by scanning the SmartTag, most commonly by a retailer or consumer. The SmartTag product ID will be used by the FreshTag module to query the product details and the product temperature history and combine these data sets to calculate the current freshness and the expected remaining shelf-life.
By adding the dynamic product information, TagItSmart! will differentiate from other solutions and this can result in the overall expanding of the TagItSmart! ecosystem, aiming to make it the standard in food supply chain traceability with unit-resolution and to become the foundation for the Internet of food.

2. eReuse by Associacio Pangea Coordinadora Comunicacio per a la Cooperacio
Circular economy for electronics reuse
eReuse focus on refurbished used devices such as computers, laptops or
mobiles. After repair and testing by authorized agents, refurbished products go back to the supply
chain, helping to reduce e-waste. eReuse.org involves several local organizations managing
thousands of devices for reuse. The eReuse.org community has developed an understanding of the
problem, the challenges to move to a circular economy, the value of an ecology for digital devices,
where circularity critically depends on the traceability of devices and cooperation among all
stakeholders locally and globally. Our vision is a resource-efficient circular economy for digital
devices, a collective effort in a collaborative community, for a sustainable market from an economic
and ecologic perspective. This community relies on processes, software tools, web services and big
open data for efficient, trustworthy and transparent circular exchanges with citizens (B2C), private
(B2B) and public administration (B2A) entities. Pangea proposes to develop the use case of a
"Circular Economy" of "slow moving" circular goods (SMCG), based on an the integration of the
eReuse.org community with the use of SmartTags and the TIS ecosystem where stakeholders
exchange certified data about the status, value and traceability of digital devices, and perform a pilot
project about circular economy in a real business environment.

5. TagItLedger by UBITECH
Tag Driven Supply Chain Ledger Service for Enhanced Product Transparency
The aim of TagItLedger is to bring in the TagItSmart (TIS)
platform a private blockchain as a service functionality that covers the aforementioned
problems due to the inherent design of the specific technology, linked to the specific
participants of a supply chain and creating a private blockchain network between them, with
the product acting as the blockchain asset. Direct links with current TIS services (such as VE
inventories and access interfaces, streaming and notification services) is highlighted in order
to sketch the integration of the TagItLedger extension point. Through the proposed extension,
integrated with the main elements of the TIS platform, blockchain functionality can be added
as a mean to immutably document the state and status of a product (driven by its scan and
respective values) in each supply chain stage, while maintaining a secure, global and
consistent point of record for the given product id, including the full history of the product cycle.
In this way, a trusted chain can occur, making assignment and acceptance of responsibility for
the state of the product an unquestionable feature. We expect that TagItLedger can have direct
usages also in TIS Use Cases, primarily Brand Protection, Digital Product and/or Dynamic
Pricing. Specific dissemination and awareness KPIs are given for the proposal while key
commercialization aspects will be investigated in the duration of the work, aiming towards
incorporating the specific offering into Ubitech's portfolio of services.
6. TagItSecure! by FINCONS GROUP AG, Succursale di Lugano
TagItSmart!! with Secure Data Exchange Middleware Integration
Objective of the work is the integration within the TagItSmart! (TIS) ecosystem of a new
module, named Secure Data Exchange Management (SeDEM), to enhance the platform with
the SeDEM encryption features designed to provide end-to-end data protection, especially for
privacy-related, or confidential, data.
The features this module provides have acquired paramount importance in consequence of
the relevance IoT is gaining in our everyday life, with a continuous collection of
sensitive/personal data. For such scenarios, the protection of such data is a key challenge to
achieve end-users' acceptance and legal viability (according to the recently established
GDPR4) of new services and systems.
The SeDEM module, therefore, represents an asset that FINCONS-CH intends to exploit as a
software component pluggable in all the IoT solutions / frameworks that support the concepts
of secure data exchange and reserved access to resources.
7. TrustForTags by APLICACIONES Y TRATAMIENTOS DE SISTEMAS
Trust capabilities based on a Blockchain component for TagITSmart!
TrustForTags proposal aims to extend and enhance the functionalities of TagITSmart! Platform by
expanding it with a new module that harnesses the potential of DLT. The module will setup
and manage transactions among TagITSmart! Ecosystem stakeholders while bringing
transparency and simplicity in the process.
TrustForTags innovative solution proposes that all underlying procedural complexities of DLT be
abstracted with calls to TrustForTags API. We propose firstly to co-create reusable
templates for Smart Contracts attending TagITSmart! use cases. Then through API calls, those
templates will be filled up, compiled and eventually deployed on the DLT. By relying on external
decentralized storage located out of the blockchain, handling of sensitive data and
enforcement of GDPR will be easier due to timestamps, deduplication, high performance, and
clustered persistence.
3rd Open Call Projects
1. DLT-Tags by UNIZG-FER
Decentralized, privacy-preserving and verifiable management of Smart Tags
This project proposes a novel information sharing model adequate for decentralized environments which relies on Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) to track state changes of Smart Tags in a privacy-preserving and verifiable way. DLT-enhanced Smart Tags (DLT-Tags) are mimicking the actual physical product exchange, while being mediated by DLT to track product state changes so that they are verifiable. The main novelty of the proposed solution is related to decentralized management of data associated to Smart Tags which is stored and processed exclusively on software platforms managed by stakeholders in possession of a product/Smart Tag without third-party involvement.
The two or more parties engaged in the physical exchange of the product/Smart Tag have to 1) recreate its digital representation by reading the Tag, or by direct exchange of product-related data and 2) reach consensus regarding a new product state before its summary is stored in a distributed ledger. Full product description is not stored in the ledger or by third parties outside the stakeholders involved in product's physical lifecycle. The project will demonstrate usability of the proposed solution by enhancing a popular e-commerce open source solution to become part of the TagItSmart (TIS) ecosystem and perform a trial within the context of an existing TIS use case. The proposed technology is novel and innovative with potential to manage the future EPP: It significantly changes the current centralized management of TIS Tags and has potential to be adopted by organisations that are reluctant to share data with third parties.
